Answers From a Local Tree Care Pro
Do you remove trees in yards where heavy equipment cannot fit?
Yes, and this is one of our specialties. Many homes in Bloomington and Normal have established backyards with narrow gate access or tight lot lines where cranes and large machinery simply cannot get in. We work primarily with manual climbing gear, ropes, and tractors to safely remove trees in those restricted spaces. If heavy equipment is needed for a specific job, we rent it as required, but most of our complex removals are handled without it. If another company has told you the job cannot be done because of access, give us a call before you give up.Are you available for emergency tree removal after a storm?
We operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including after major storms. If a tree has come down on your property in Bloomington, Normal, Downs, Hudson, Shirley, or Towanda, we can respond and clear the damage. Storm cleanup is one of our core services, and the around-the-clock availability is there specifically for urgent situations where waiting until morning is not an option. When you call or text, you reach us directly, not an answering service. What communities do you serve around Bloomington?
We serve a 10-mile radius centered around Bloomington, Illinois. The communities within that footprint include Bloomington, Normal, Downs, Hudson, Shirley, and Towanda. If you are unsure whether your address falls within our service area, just call or text and we can confirm quickly. We do not service areas outside that radius, which keeps our response times fast and our focus local.Do you handle stump grinding after a tree is removed?
Yes. Stump grinding is a standard part of what we offer. Once a tree is cut down, the remaining stump can be a tripping hazard, an eyesore, and an obstacle for future landscaping work. We grind stumps down so the area is clean and ready for whatever comes next, whether that is sod, a flower bed, or simply reclaiming usable yard space. If you have an old stump from a previous removal that was never ground down, we can take care of that as a standalone job as well. How long has Papatyi Landscaping been in business, and who does the work?
Josh Papatyi founded the business in 2007, putting us at nearly 20 years of continuous operation in the Bloomington area, with our 20th anniversary coming in 2027. Josh started cutting trees at age 10, so the hands-on experience goes back over 30 years. The business grew entirely through word of mouth: clients who hired us for landscaping liked what they saw and started asking us to handle their tree removals. When you hire us, you are getting a local, family-owned operation with a long track record in this community.Do you offer lawn care or grass cutting services?
No. We no longer provide routine lawn care, grass cutting, or turf maintenance of any kind. Our focus is entirely on tree care, arborist services, and light hardscaping work such as retaining walls, brick and natural stone edging, flower beds, mulching, and sod installation. This focus lets us put all of our skill and attention into the specialized work we do best. If you need a lawn mowing service, we are not the right fit, but for anything involving trees or structural landscaping, we are glad to help. Will I get a straightforward estimate without a sales pitch?
That is exactly how we operate. We do not upsell, and we are not going to show up and try to talk you into services you did not ask about. You describe the job, we take a look, and we give you an honest estimate for the work that needs to be done. This approach is something we have held to since the beginning, and it is a big reason why so much of our business has come from referrals over the years. We are here to get the job done right, not to push anything extra. What types of landscaping and hardscaping work do you provide?
Beyond tree services, we specialize in light structural landscaping and hardscaping. That includes retaining wall installation, custom brick edging, natural stone edging, flower bed installation, mulching, and sod installation. We do not do general lawn maintenance, but if you want to add structure, definition, or curb appeal to your property using quality materials, we can help. The same attention to detail we bring to tree work carries over to every hardscaping project we take on in Bloomington and the surrounding communities.
